NEW DELHI: The Ukraine war has galvanised Germany. For perhaps the first time since its defeat in World War II, Berlin is casting off its own self-placed shackles, and is bidding to lead European resistance to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Germany is sending arms and other equipment to Ukraine and most importantly, has nearly doubled its defence budget.
In this chat on StratNewsGlobal, Dr. Marcus Pindur, Editor Security & Politics of Deutschland Radio, the official public broadcaster, believes that this is a seminal moment for Germany and Europe. While it is not yet clear how far Germany is prepared to go to help Ukraine, there are risks attendant to any confrontation with Russia.
Dr. Pindur looks at other issues including how Russia could respond to this European show of spine, will the US come to Europe’s aid and could this war distract Washington from its need to take on the challenge from China in the Indo-Pacific.
Tune in for more in this conversation with Dr. Marcus Pindur.
