Less than two months after he took charge as Pakistan’s Attorney General, Shehzad Ata Elahi quit the top law office on Friday. There has been no official information of his resignation yet but sources claimed that the reason for his exit was that the government did not have a “comfortable correlation” with him. According to sources, the March 22 notification of the Election Commission postponing the Punjab assembly polls made the highest office the most uncomfortable seat since Elahi had to defend executive’s decisions before the judiciary. Imran Khan’s party has already announced approaching the Supreme Court against the “illegal decision” that the poll panel has made at the behest of the government and the powers that be. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has held a meeting with legal experts to discuss their strategy on the delayed elections in Punjab, when the matter is heard by the Supreme Court. “The PM’s huddle fully supported the Election Commission’s decision and resolved to hold elections to all assemblies simultaneously,” a PML-N source told Dawn.
