NEW DELHI: In the second of StratNewsGlobal’s three-part series on science and technology, we talk to Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology on Geospatial data. This is now an area of vital focus with the government relaxing controls on the collection and dissemination of geospatial data, throwing it open to the private sector.
Geospatial data is basically detailed information about geographic locations and features gleaned through satellites and ground based surveys. According to Prof. Sharma, if one needs information about high rise buildings on a certain street, geospatial data will contain all that information and more. It will be possible to compile and store information about land surveys, who owns how much land in which village, the value of that land and so on.
