NEW DELHI: ‘I have it on good authority that the June 23 Russia-India China (RIC) foreign minister-level virtual meeting will be used to deliver an uncomfortable message to China diplomatically,’ former Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal tells StratNews Global. He spoke on our weekly show ‘Talking Point’ with author, academic and journalist James Crabtree, human rights activist and writer Benedict Rogers, anchored by Associate Editor Amitabh P. Revi. James Crabtree, Associate Professor, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore says in the aftermath of the pandemic, China is testing its adversaries to see how they respond, with what speed, ferocity and resources to see what it can get away with. Benedict Rogers, Founder and Chair, Hong Kong Watch, welcomes the Uighur Act being signed into Law by U.S. President Donald Trump as another prong of pressure against Beijing. The wide-ranging discussion analyses military, political, diplomatic and economic options India and other countries have against China’s muscular aggression as well as the effectiveness and consequences of those options. The participants discuss the cost-benefit analysis of using trade, tariffs, technology, Tibet, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Uighurs and sanctions to hit Beijing where it hurts hardest and what the repercussions are likely to be.
