NEW DELHI: India has ceded ground to the Chinese in Ladakh in the last few years, says Lt. Gen. Rakesh Sharma (Retd), who commanded a corps there. But in this conversation on The Gist, he pointed that even the Chinese no longer have access to territory on our side of the LAC. Gen. Sharma believes that the speed and scale of China’s military mobilization and the spread of permanent structures to house troops in areas stretching from the Depsang Plains right down to Chumar and Demchok, suggests there will be no de-escalation. India will have to live with this reality. In his view, while the LAC cannot be compared to the LoC, China seems determined to keep up the pressure on India. Her violation of agreements signed since the 1990s to preserve peace on the LAC also confirms hostile intent. Tune in for more in this chat with Lt.Gen. Rakesh Sharma on The Gist.
