NEW DELHI: The first ever visit to Taiwan by three retired Indian service chiefs has triggered a minor media storm. Gen. Naravane, Admiral KB Singh and Air Chief Marshal Bhaduria are in Taipei for a security conference, but as Nitin A. Gokhale, Editor-in-Chief of StratNews Global said on The Gist, India is waking up to some harsh realities.

China’s in-your-face aggression, whether in Ladakh or in concert with its iron brother Pakistan, has forced India to form new partnerships and networks. The visit of the three former service chiefs flows from the need to understand the threat Taiwan faces from China, and the repercussions in the event China invades Taiwan.

India has also joined the Quad, I2U2 and carries out military exercises with a range of partners to improve skills and expertise. Intelligence sharing with the US, France, UK, Japan and Australia is a fact. It is in preparation for a possible scenario where Washington may seek help from India as it moves to counter a Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

Tune in for more in this conversation with Nitin A. Gokhale, Editor-in-Chief StratNews Global.
