Sultan’s State Visit Underlines Unique Relationship

NEW DELHI: The unique relationship between India and Oman was clearly underlined by the Joint Vision Document adopted during the three- day State visit of the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tarik, to New Delhi from December 16. Titled a ‘A Partnership For the Future’, the document aims to leverage the remarkable synergy between Oman Vision 2040 and India’s development objectives under ‘Amrit Kaal’ Billed as roadmap to further strengthen and deepen the relationship, it identifies a broad range of areas including maritime cooperation and connectivity, energy security and green energy, space, technologies, digital payments and financial cooperation, trade and Investment, health, tourism and hospitality, IT, innovation, agriculture and food security and list specific action points for each. In this edition of the Gist, Col Rajeev Agarwal, Assistant Director at the Manohar Parrikar -Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses in New Delhi and a research scholar on West Asia, explains the enormous significance of the visit. Col Agarwal, who served as Director Military Intelligence as well as a Director at the Ministry of External Affairs while in Service, traces the ancient historical ties between the two nations, and shares his insights as well as interesting aspects of the relationship which make it so special.
