NEW DELHI: The US National Security Strategy unveiled over the last weekend, firmly puts China in the cross hairs of Washington’s response.
In this conversation on The Gist, Pankaj Saran, former deputy national security adviser and ambassador to Russia, underscores how seriously the US views the challenge from China, and the range of steps it has already taken. These range from a CHIPS Act to limit the flow of high technology semiconductors to China, to legislation to upgrade American infrastructure, health and military prowess.
Ambassador Saran notes that the strategy sees the threat from Russia as more immediate, even warning that if battlefield defeats in Ukraine increase, Moscow maybe tempted to use the nuclear option. This could push the world towards a nuclear confrontation.
While India finds mention in the strategy, Ambassador Saran explains how the US actually sees India. Tune in for more in this chat on The Gist.
